Position Rank: Full Time Tenure Stream - Assistant/Associate Professor |
The Information Technology Program comprises a series of interdisciplinary degree programs that combine information technology with studies in fields such as administrative studies, health informatics, and professional writing. The Information Technology program is developing a proposal to form a separate School in the Atkinson Faculty, and is interested in developing new program initiatives at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. |
Applications are invited for two tenure-track appointments. The first appointment is at the rank of Associate Professor. While outstanding applicants in all areas of Information Technology will be considered, the unit is interested in appointing candidates with teaching and research expertise in Human Computer Interaction; candidates with expertise in Data Security, Warehousing and/or Mining will also be considered. The successful applicant must be able to teach courses in human computer interaction, and will be expected to contribute to the development of new program initiatives in the unit. Appointment with tenure is possible if the applicant has already held tenure in a recognized program at another university. Applicants must have a PhD in an area relevant to the appointment, a proven record of research, and evidence of superior teaching. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate with qualifications deemed equivalent to a PhD may be considered. These qualifications may include: (1) a relevant university degree; (2) an established record of teaching, research and publication; (3) demonstration of an ongoing commitment to research and publication; and (4) extensive practical IT experience in an industry setting. Preference will be given to candidates who can either strengthen existing areas of present and ongoing research activity in information technology, or contribute significantly to new program initiatives. |
The second position is at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Data Security, Warehousing and/or Mining. The successful candidate must be able to develop and teach courses in information/Internet security. Applicants must have a relevant PhD, and show promise of excellence in independent scholarly research, and evidence of potential for superior teaching. Depending on academic qualifications, and teaching and research interests, a cross-appointment with another relevant academic unit may be appropriate (for example, in the case of a candidate with a background in Mathematics/Statistics, a cross- appointment between Atkinson ITEC/SASIT and the Faculty of Science and Engineering Mathematics/Statistics). An interest in participating in graduate teaching, mentoring and supervision is essential. |
The candidates are expected to be immediately or imminently appointable to the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a relevant existing graduate program, and to contribute to the development of new graduate programs in Information Technology. |
These positions, to commence July 1, 2006, are subject to budgetary approval. |
