Tanara ma maritai
Tanara ma maritai,
Tanara de saispe ai
Si rai socri imi luai.
Socrii rai barbatu mut,
Tanara m-or pune-n lut;
Socrii-s rai, barbatul caine,
Tanara m-or pune bine!
Sa ma mire maicile,
Ce naroc au fetile!
I was married when still young
I was married when still young,
Just sexteen and I was gone.
My in-laws turned out to be bad
And my husband, dumb and mad.
They will bury me alive,
In-laws, husband, all alike,
They will bury me for sure.
Let all mothers from now on beware
They daughters from bad luck spare.
